David Haye eyes homecoming fight against John Ruiz

Having defeated Nikolay Valuev on a majority decision to become the new WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye has admitted that he would love the chance to fight in front of a British crowd next up.

The Hayemaker said “I’d love to have a homecoming. I’d love to go back, if the John Ruiz fight goes ahead, and have it in the O2 Arena, to show British fans a great night.”

“He’s a good fighter, underrated and about the same size as me. I would maybe like to fight in Millwall, anywhere where the fans can come down to. The more the merrier.”

Victory over Ruiz could potentially set-up a superfight with one of the Klitschkos’ in Las Vegas in late 2010 and Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, and the man most likely to negotiate the fight has nothing but praise for Britain’s new heavyweight champion.

“David is the heavyweight we have been waiting for. He has started a new era. He is the No1 not just in ability in the ring but with his charisma out of it” said Schaefer.
