The IPL - heading to a town near you!
The Indian Premier League (IPL) looks set to be heading to England or South Africa after the Indian government failed to tackle the growing security fears surrounding the upcoming tournament.
IPL tsar Lalit Modi is desperately looking for a new host country, but who we will choose? South Africa, who hold the World Cup next year, are said to be keen to put on a great show and allay their own security fears. Meanwhile the ECB are notorious for acting in a dithering manner and with the tournament due to start in less than three weeks it will be interesting to see if an agreement can be reached in such a short time frame.
There is also interest from Sri Lanka, but it would be a surprise to see the cricketing tournament moving there with England and South Africa both providing greater stadiums. All in all it leaves Modi in a bit of a hole with the IPL’s 59 games scheduled to commence in April.
