Friday Fun – Mike Grundy erupts
The relationship between sport and the media is one that has often boiled over with opinions and views often divided. No more so is this highlighted than the Mike Grundy episode of the 22nd September 2007 when the Olakhoma State coach launched into a tirade against a journalist, who had written an article criticising one of Grundy’s players.
The incident followed Olakhoma’s victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, with Gundy refusing to discuss or answer any questions about the game.
Instead, he tore into journalist Jenni Carlson of The Oklahoman who wrote the original article discussing Bobby Reid, the former starting quarterback, and reasons why he may have been demoted to the reserve team.
Without doubt the best part of Grundy’s outburst is when he screams “Come after me! I’m a man! I’m forty!.” What on earth is he on about? No idea, but it makes for hilarious viewing.
