The problem with good ideas is that in practice they can be pretty damn annoying. Take Tom Brady and those well intended at World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for instance.
The plan behind the WWF’s latest act of dogoodery, Earth Hour, is for everyone to turn off their lights for one whole hour at 8:30pm on Saturday the 27th of March.
Although in principle it appears to be a fairly honourable suggestion the reality is unthinkable. What are we supposed to do for an hour in the dark? Can we really not put the TV on? These questions need to be addressed by WWF.
I don’t know about you, but the only thing I enjoy doing in the dark is sleeping. Moving the Earth Hour back to a more suitable hour like 11:30pm would, dare I say it, kill 2 birds with 1 stone - a concept that the WWF will almost certainly not agree to.
Anyway, as with all good bandwagons you need people to jump aboard and New England Patriots quarterback, Brady, has decided to ride up front on this one. The NFL star made the following public plea:
It’s at this point we would like to point out that Mrs Brady AKA Gisele Bundchen also filmed a clip for Earth Hour in Los Angeles. Brady, of course, filmed his piece in Boston. Presumably flying back and forth between the 2 burns slightly more fossil fuels than watching TV for an hour, eh Bradders?
