Say what you like about Man Utd’s team selection and tactics, but Barcelona simply outclassed Alex Ferguson’s side to lift the Champions League for a third time in their history last night.

Goals from Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi gave Barca a 2-0 win over the defending champions in a match they totally dominated, bar a 10 minute spell at the start.

Man Utd attacking line-up suggested they weren’t afraid to take Barcelona on at their own game, but the Catalans midfield duo of Xavi and Iniesta ran the show with a lesson in passing perfection.

“We didn’t play as well as we can but you have to give Barcelona credit,” said Fergie in the wake of the defeat.

“Lionel Messi wasn’t the problem, Xavi and Andres Iniesta kept the ball all night and made it difficult for us.”

“The better team won and there’s nothing we can do about that now.”
