With the trio of Joe Hart, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Fraizer Campbell all missing for the Three Lions, Stuart Pearce could be forgiven for expecting a much tougher encounter than the one they got in the group stages earlier on in the competition.
What he probably didn’t expect to see was utter capitulation by England. Germany, who held England to a 1-1 draw in the Group stages, gave England’s youngsters a lesson in the art of counter attacking football.
Gonzalo Castro put Germany ahead on 23 minutes, before an inexplicable moment of madness from stand in keeper Scott Loach gifted the Germans a second just after the break.
England pushed hard to get back into the game, but were caught on the break by 2 well taken goals from Sandro Wagner to give the Germans a 4-0 victory.
