Freddy Adu: On international duty for Team USA

Life used to be so good for Freddy Adu. At the tender age of 14 years old he was heralded as the ‘next Pele’, whilst playing for D.C.United in the MLS. Before the 2006 season, Adu was even loaned to Man Utd to continue his development, but problems with a work permit meant he was unable to play a competitive game.

Fast forward to 2011 and Adu is now plying his trade in the Turkish second division for Çaykur Rizespor, after ineffective spells at Benfica, AS Monaco, Belenenses and Aris. Harldy Pele-esque.

But, 21 year old Adu reminded everyone that he still has some magic dust in his locker, with a goal that the legendary Brazilian No.10 would have been proud of at the weekend.
