You often hear football fans saying “why don’t they take one less goalie and one more striker” when it comes to World Cup squads. Well now one national team has tried it. North Korea added striker Kim Myong-Won to their squad instead of their third goalkeeper.
However their plans have backfired as FIFA have intervened stating that there is a rule that dictates that there must be 3 goalkeepers in a squad and none of them can play in an outfield position.
North Korea will be disappointed at this news after they tried to bolster their squad which has been drawn in to play in the “group of death” – Group G – along with Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal.
Brazil are favourites to win the group and only one of the Ivory Coast, Portugal and North Korea can go through with them. North Korea are without doubt the least favourites to progress from the group stages.
