The word hermit refers to a person secluded from society. The plural meaning relates to North Korea. A country completely cut away from the rest of the world thanks to a paranoid state led by Kim Jong-Il, which has decided to send Chinese fans to the World Cup posing as North Koreans. Makes sense right? Not a bit, but what else would you expect from a crackpot communist regime.
Instead of letting some of their most ardent brain washed subjects travel to South Africa, Kim Jong-Il’s government cherry-picked a group of Chinese volunteers to act as NK supporters.
The Telegraph reported the following back in May:
So far, a group of around 1,000 Chinese fans, including a group of actors and musicians who have been sent to cheer China in previous World Cup tournaments, will attend the games against Brazil and Portugal to cheer on their North Korean cousins.
The fake NK fans were seen singing the national anthem loudly before the Brazil game on Monday and appeared to being told when to cheer by a man leading the group like an orchestra conductor at the front.
The whole episode does nothing to dispel the myth that the Hermit Kingdom is without doubt the craziest country on the planet.
