Real Madrid’s Portuguese international Pepe faces a lengthy ban after commiting what has to be one the most random acts of violence witnessed on a football pitch in a very long time.
With the scores level at 2-2, between Real Madrid and Getafe, and three minutes left in the La Liga clash at Real’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Pepe shoved Getafe’s Francisco Casquero to the ground to concede a late penalty and then brutally stamped and kicked the midfielder.
He then palmed the angry Juan Albin in the face in the ensuing melee. Pepe was sent off but Francisco Casquero’s cheeky chipped spot-kick was saved by Iker Casillas.
Pepe has since come out to say “These are the worst days of my life. I do not have any desire to return to playing football. I have seen the replays of the incident, but I do not recognise myself. I lost control and I went crazy, but that is not me.
“The worst punishment is going through what I’m experiencing now. If I see that there’s no chance of me returning to football again, then I will try something else.”
