Glover wins US Open, but do any of us care?

This year's US Open was a bit of a damp squid

So, Lucas ‘never heard of him before last week’ Glover has won what has been one of the most forgettable US Opens’ of recent years. The US golfer held off challenges from Phil Mickelson, David Duval and Tiger Woods to capture the second major of the year, but in truth it was a fairly turgid display.

Mickelson threatened briefly, while Woods never got going as Glover held on to triumph by two shots at Bethpage. The tournament as a whole was a bit of a damp squid not helped by the torrential rain that blitzed the course on the opening days.

The British charge was led by Ross Fisher, who finished in a respectable 5th position and was in contention until the final hole.

US OPEN FINAL RESULTS:

(US unless stated)
-4 L Glover
-2 P Mickelson, D Duval, R Barnes
-1 R Fisher (Eng)
Selected others: E T Woods +2 R McIlory (NI), S Garcia (Spa) +4 I Poulter (Eng) +5 L Westwood (Eng), O Wilson (Eng)

As you can see below the US media desperately wanted a Mickelson win, but it was not to be as the unknown Glover held on.
