Francois Steyn: 36 caps for South Africa

As nicknames go ‘Rocket Launcher’ is a pretty cool one to have, unless you find yourself in a rather senior position among the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, where you probably need to have quiet word with yourself.

One man who certainly does not need to have any words with himself is rugger bugger Francois Steyn the proud owner of said nickname and widely acknowledged to have the biggest boot in the sport.

That doesn’t manifest itself in freakish baguette sized footwear, but instead in his ability to kick a rugby ball a very very long way.

How far I hear you cry? Well the South African ace unleashed a stunning drop goal from 60m away, which looked good value for another 20m in last week’s Top 14 play-off match between Racing Metro and Clermont.
